- 2 cupsall-purpose flour
- 2 tbspgranulated sugar
- 1 tbspbaking powder
- 0.5 tspsalt
- 0.5 cupbutter(cold)
- 1 largeegg(divided)
- 0.67 cupmilk
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
- 2Cut in the butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
- 3In a small bowl, beat the egg lightly; remove 1 tbsp of the beaten egg and reserve for the topping.
- 4To the remaining egg, add the milk; add the mixture all at once to the dry ingredients, stirring quickly with a fork to make a soft dough.
- 5With floured hands, gather into a ball and turn out onto a lightly floured surface.
- 6Knead lightly a few times until smooth.
- 7Roll or pat out to a 3/4-inch thickness.
- 8Cut into 2 1/2-inch rounds.
- 9Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
- 10Brush the tops with the reserved egg.
- 11Bake in the centre of a 425°F oven until golden brown, 12 to 14 minutes.
